Seismologists at Yale have partnered with the U.S. Geological Survey, Rutgers University, Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory at Columbia University, and the University of Texas at Austin to deploy seismic stations near the epicenter of the magnitude 4.7 Whitehouse Station, NJ earthquake on April 5. The seismic data will be used to understand where aftershocks originate in the area, how long they last, and their magnitude, and to study the structure of the crust in the vicinity of the earthquake.
