The giant rock that wiped out tree-dwelling birds

In a paper published in Current Biology (June 4th) former graduate students Daniel Field (University of Bath) and Tyler Lyson (Denver Science Museum), together with Professor Jacques Gauthier and others, show that tree dwelling birds did not survive the asteroid impact that caused the end-Cretaceous extinction.  The ancestors of many modern tree dwelling bird groups lived on the ground.
