Soong-Ki Kim

Postdoctoral Associate

Bio:

I am a postdoctoral researcher studying climate science in the Department of Earth and Planetary Sciences at Yale University, working with Alexey Fedorov

Before joining Yale, I was a postdoctoral researcher at the Irreversible Climate Change Research Center at Yonsei University in Seoul, South Korea, where I worked with Soon-Il An while also fulfilling my mandatory military service as a technical research personnel. I earned my Ph.D. in 2023 from Yonsei University, where I also worked with Soon-Il An

My research aims to understand the physical mechanisms of climate variability and climate change using theory, modeling, and observational analysis. I am particularly interested in the large-scale dynamics of the atmosphere and ocean, and their interactions with the cryosphere and land systems.

My research is mainly focused on climate variability modes (such as El Niño–Southern Oscillation and Indian Ocean Dipole), abrupt and irreversible climate change, Atlantic meridional overturning circulation, and I’m also interested in various aspects of climate science such as weather-climate interactions.
