The Earth and Planetary Sciences (EPS) program prepares students to apply scientific principles and methods to understanding the Earth system and other planets. Subjects range from the history of Earth and life to present-day environmental processes and climate change, the deep interiors of Earth and other planets, and more!
BA in Earth and Planetary Sciences
The Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in Earth and Planetary Sciences provides a broad overview of the field with relatively few prerequisites, especially in mathematics, and a modest total number of required courses. It is ideal for students interested in a flexible program, those pursuing a double major, or those who study EPS in preparation for a career in law, business, government, environmental, or similar fields.
BS in Earth and Planetary Sciences
The Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in Earth and Planetary Sciences is designed to prepare students for professional careers in the field. The tracks are (1) atmosphere, ocean, and climate; (2) environmental and energy geoscience; (3) paleontology and geobiology; and (4) solid Earth sciences.
BS in Physics and Geosciences
The major in Physics and Geosciences applies fundamental physical principles to the study of the Earth and other planetary bodies, synthesizing concepts and methods from both the Physics and the Earth and Planetary Sciences majors.
Suggested Electives
Lists of EPS courses that comprise suggested electives for each of the concentrations of the EPS major.
Energy Studies Interdisciplinary Certificate
An overview of the science, technology, impacts, and societal implications of energy-related fields
Climate Science and Solutions Certificate
A foundation in basic climate science, anthropogenic climate change, and solutions
Research Opportunities and Info
Undergraduate students participate in cutting-edge research as early as possible. Search the research section and learn about faculty interests.
Join Club Geo
Club Geo is a student organization for all undergraduates excited about Earth and planetary sciences! Club Geo organizes study breaks and field trips and generally fosters the excellent and tight-knit communities among EPS majors and fans.
To get updates about Club Geo events, you can join the group on Yale Connect, or you can email Jas Hollis (jas.hollis@yale.edu) and ask to be added. You can also join the GroupMe.
