The Earth and Planetary Sciences (EPS) program prepares students to apply scientific principles and methods to understand the Earth system and other planets. Subjects range from the history of Earth and life to present-day environmental processes and climate change, the deep interiors of Earth and other planets, tectonic plates, oceans, atmospheres, and more!
BA in Earth and Planetary Sciences
The Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) track in Geology and Natural Resources provides a broad overview of Earth sciences with fewer prerequisites, especially in mathematics, and fewer total courses required. It’s ideal for students interested in a flexible program or pursuing a double major.

BS in Earth and Planetary Sciences
The Bachelor of Science (B.S.) program is designed to prepare students for professional careers in the Earth sciences. The tracks are (1) atmosphere, ocean, and climate, (2) environmental and energy geoscience, (3) paleontology and geobiology, and (4) solid Earth sciences.

Energy Studies Interdisciplinary Certificate
Many courses with broad themes touching on science, technology, and society can count in Energy Studies
Climate Sciences Studies
Sustainable human life depends on the way the Earth’s land, water, air, and living things interact. The Department of Earth & Planetary Sciences studies all of these connections.

Research Opportunities and Info
Students can participate in cutting-edge research as early as possible. Search the research section and learn about faculty interests. Reach out via email to potential advisers or find more info on Club Geo.
