Parker Liautaud ‘16 sets world records on South Pole expedition

January 7, 2014

G&G major Parker Liautaud reached the South Pole by skis on 24 December 2013.  He is the youngest man to reach both poles, and he also achieved the fastest Antarctic coast-to-pole trek, taking just over 18 days.  His expedition, named “Willis Resilience” after its principal corporate sponsor, Willis Group Holdings, seeks to increase public awareness of climate change. Parker also collected snow profiles from previously unsampled regions of the continent, ultimately to measure the spatial and temporal variability in isotopic ratios of hydrogen and oxygen through the past decades to centuries in those areas.
